Abstract

In the case of municipal land management, has been noted for the large Brazilian cities a precarious existence on the performance of public agencies territorial planning, in attempts to adapt the use of urban land in accordance with environmental quality. Attracting the focus of the current reality for the city of Santos, confirmed such precariousness, noting the setting unequal in the distribution pattern of the various forms of occupation and use of land throughout the municipal area. The installation and modernization of the port complex in the city attracted a considerable population, causing such events, alongside the increase in speculation as a result of increased tourism in recent decades, they were the main aggravating the problems regarding quality of life its inhabitants and in access to goods and services they produce. To assist in planning and urban management for the city of Santos, the main objective of this project aims to conduct a study that aims to deepen the knowledge about the theme of the production of urban space and urban land use, through the production of maps and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data from recent historical period, as well as the decades of 1970 to 2010, using the techniques of geotechnology, on the methodological approach of geographical science. Knowledge of temporal transformations of forms of land use, makes it imperative to achieving these goals, especially when you have the notion that the domain knowledge of maps is crucial to help in ways of thinking and acting rationally about a particular place in space as well as manage it.
