Abstract

The study of the trans-Neptunian region is relatively recent, with just over 20 years. The increased number of discovered objects revealed a far more complex scenario than what is conjectured. At least four dynamic classes can be defined in the region and it is estimated that the number of real objects can be up to six orders of magnitude higher than the number currently known. The dynamic formation of detached objects, with a > 50au and perihelion distance greater than 40au, high inclinations and near mean motions resonances (MMRs) was explained by Gomes (2011) for particles close to the 3:8 MMR with Neptune, and currently in our doctoral project, we study the cases near the 2:5 and 1:3 MMR's. The main mechanism links mean motion resonance with Kozai resonance, and the particle is able to escape both resonances when it is in a state of low eccentricity (and high inclination) while Neptune still migrates to its current position. This process has been found effective in the scattered disk (a > 50au), but in principle it could also act on the classical Kuiper Belt (39.4 < a < 47.8 au), since this region may have been swept by MMRs with Neptune while the planets were migrating. Therefore, at least part of the hot population could be explained by mechanisms similar to those proposed for the detached objects from the scattered disk. Similarly, part of the cold population could be explained if some secular resonance acted decreasing eccentricity and inclination at the same time, and the particles were released from the resonance into this (cold) states as Neptune was still migrating. Several migration scenarios may be used in this kind of study. (AU)
