Abstract

The complexity of malocclusion and the necessity of orthopedic stimulation made rapid maxillary expansion a routinely proceed used and required during cleft lip and palate rehabilitation of the majority of patients at the late mixed dentition, aiming to normalize the maxillary dental arch dimensions usurped by childhood surgeries. Objectives: Evaluate, in digital models, the behave of the maxillary dental arch of patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate submitted to the procedure of rapid maxillary expansion with Haas or Hyrax appliance. Methods: The sample will consist of 40 patients. The maxillary dental arch will be impressed in three times: pre-expansion (T1), immediately after the removal of the appliance (T2) and one year after expansion, during retention period (T3). The casts models will be scanned with the aid of 3Shape R7003D scanner and the intercanine width, intermolars width, dental arch perimeter, buccal and lingual inclination of the permanent first molars and canine and palate volume will be measured by digital OrthoAnalyserTM 3D software.
