Abstract

The hypothesis of this study is that the reduction of cation-anion balance of the diet of lactating dairy cows affects milk stability. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of cation-anion balance of the diet for lactating dairy cows on production, milk composition and stability. Will be used 16 Holstein cows in the middle stage of lactation (> 100 <200 days) with an mean milk yield of 25 kg / day, and average body weight of 600 kg, distributed in 4 contemporary Latin squares 4 x 4, with 4 periods of 21 days and 4 treatments. The cows will be housed in the stable type "free-stall", fed twice daily with individual control of food intake and milked twice a day. To reduce the cation-anion balance of the diet, cows receive increasing levels of ammonium sulfate per treatment. Will be used four experimental diets with forage base of corn silage: 1) +275 mEq / kg DM, 2) +175 mEq / kg DM, 3) 75 mEq / kg DM; -75 mEq / kg DM. The dependent variables to be evaluated are: dry matter intake milk yield, composition and stability, subunit casein, concentration of ionized calcium in milk, blood, urinary and rumen parameters.
