Abstract

The development of research using primate models offers a particular understanding of parallel situations that make them valuable for comparative studies. The primate species Cebus apella are considered good models for studies due to its close relationship with man. Today, with the advances in knowledge and new technologies, regenerative medicine has been used in preclinical studies and in the development of everal treatments associated with cell therapy. The interest in this type of treatment is growing every day and is an essential tool for tissues and organs regeneration. In order to obtain better results with these treatments, biomaterials engineering, in association with cell therapy, allows a better and more efficient differentiation. Therefore, this project aims to test a new model of cell therapy by implanting stem cells from autologous bone marrow in combination with biomaterial as a treatment for bone lesions in the skull primate species C. apella. Five healthy adult females of the species C. paella are going to be used. For the injuries induction, four skull bone lesion will be performed on each animal, which are going to be treated as follows: control (no treatment); biomaterial (only); stem cells (only) and stem cells in association with the cell biomaterials trunk. As future results, we aim to develop and improve treatment for reconstitution of the skull through interaction therapy and cell therapy with the biomaterial.
