Abstract

The Cervidae Family, which belongs to the Artiodactyla order, has a large number of species and stands out by its karyotypic diversity, varying enormously in the number of chromosomes as well the supranumeric chromosomes. Thanks to this variation, the family suits well to cytogenetic studies. The chromosome polymorphism was already described to Mazama gouazoubira due to Robertsonian translocations and the presence of supranumeric chromosomes, however, none of the chromosomes involved in the translocations have been identified until today making necessary the definition of these chromosomes know better the Neotropical Deer (Cervidae) karyotypic evolution patterns. In the Nhumirim farm population, a farm belonging to the Nhecolândia Pantanal was identified several M. gouazoubira with Robertsonian translocation. This way, the study aim was to characterize cytogenetically this population, investigate the Robertsonian translocation frequencies and identify the chromosomes involved in it. Thereunto chromosomes obtained from 15 animals (nine males and six females) fibroblasts culture through conventional coloration will be analyzed. Animals with Robertsonian translocation will be submitted to a G banding technic to identify the chromosomes involved in this translocation. The result analysis will be done by the frequency of animals carrying the translocation and by the frequency of chromosomes involved in it. This way we intend to know the chromosomic rearrangement fixation patterns in this population and also be able to understand the chromosomic speciation processes, common in the Mazama genus.(AU)
