Abstract

The genus Ariadna belongs to the spider family Segestriidae, and together with Segestria and Gippsicola, they reach a total of 118 species taxonomically described, at the present moment. They are haplogynae small and mid-sized spiders, with six eyes and the third pair of legs forth. They belong to the clade Dysderoidea, composed by four families: (Segestriidae (Dysderidae (Oonopidae, Orsolobidae))). Ariadna is the most diverse genus within Segestriidae, with 98 described species, been 27 of them found in Neotropical Region. There are no recent taxonomical reviews of this genus on the species of the Neotropical Region, so the aim of this research is to taxonomically review the Ariadna species of the Neotropical Region, presenting diagnosis and detailed descriptions, and also distinctive characteristics of the male and female genitalia.
