Abstract We consider a hamiltonian model of the drift motion to investigate the chaotic transport of particles in the edge of confined plasmas in "tokamaks". The hamiltonian model, in addition to violating the so-called condition "twist", incorporates the effects of Larmor radius, which are important in the study of energetic particles.During a research internship of six months in ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA), will be produced and analyzed data obtained from the model. The activities to be developed during the internship are planned as part of the project "Particle Transport in Magnetically Confined Plasmas", previously submitted to FAPESP and the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo as a PhD project.
