Abstract

The paints industry in Brazil has been developed alot due to the increase of the construction market. The water-based inks comprise a mixture of organic and inorganic materials such as resins, pigments, solvents and additives, forming a homogeneous mixture and, because of the variety of compounds used in their manufacture, inks, when exposed to micro-organisms are susceptible to contamination, either in its production phase, storage or after applied. Fungi and bacteria present as the main bodies of contamination of paints. Due to its ability to colonize this product, it is suggested that the fungi are able to degrade this material, by extracellular enzymes that break down the molecules of the its components. The waste industry paints can be an environmental problem, particularly the organic solvents. This waste treatment can be done by use of microorganisms able to degrade it. Therefore, this proposal is the isolation, identification and selection of fungi, with potential for degradation and are able to utilize the components of the effluent and the nutrient as carbon source . Such knowledge may contribute to increased quality in the production of paints, creating a product more resistant to contamination by microorganisms.
