Abstract

The project suggests a study of the formation of caviplexes (inclusion complexes) with cucurbit[6]urils and flavoring substances like menthol, 1-octene-3-ol, decanal, methylchavicol, anethol, trimethylpyrazine, indole, 2-isobutanol, thymol and amyl acetate. These caviplexes are candidates as substance-releasing nanocapsules to be used as paint and paper additives, able to release these substances slowly and continuously. It is also a way of handle with these substances in the solid state. Some of these compounds, as it is the case of thymol for example, are also fungicides and can be used exploring this property. In order to estimate the applicability of these caviplexes for such purposes, it is necessary first to know the affinities between their components, their stoichiometry and the kinetic aspects involved in the formation and in the decomposition of these caviplexes. These data shall be the beginning of a more detailed systematic study.
