Abstract

The aim of the project is to evaluate and compare alternative thermobarometric methods for inference of P-T conditions of granulite facies metamorphism, such as Zr in rutile, zircon Ti, Ti in quartz and pseudosections. Granulites of Varginha - Três Pontas Nappe, MG, will be used as a target for this research. In the referred nappe mafic and aluminous migmatitic granulites occur and are present, respectively, the following mineral associations: diopside + plagioclase + garnet + rutile and rutile + orthoclase + quartz + garnet + kyanite. The absence of quartz and plagioclase in each association precludes the use of conventional thermobarometers, and alternative methods will be used to check if it is possible to establish metamorphic peak conditions.
