Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the impacts of the rural credit restriction for agricultural families in each one of the major Brazilian regions in the low, medium and high levels of marketization (index which indicates how much of the portion of production is commercialized). The impact of the credit restriction for agricultural families will be estimated through the model of Propensity Score Matching using data from the Agricultural Census of 2006. After the pairing process, the indicators of land productivity (total value of production divided by the total productive area of the establishment of agricultural families) and labor (total value of production divided by the number of workers employed in production) will be evaluated , identifying whether the agricultural establishments of agricultural families that received rural credit had better performance compared to those that had restrictions, based only in the groups treated.Furthermore, we intend to verify If the Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento da Agricultura Familiar - PRONAF has been effective as development policy in rural areas, providing the increment of production capacity.
