Unveiling the homoparental family: a study about the reports of homosexual couples with children

Abstract

It is among the present plurality of alternative family arrangements that the "homoparental family" arises, in which people with homosexual sexual orientation exercise parenthood. The intense presence of difficulties and conflicts - such as prejudice and discrimination - is perceived on face of this new family arrangement, on the most different contexts, and the need of more studies that cover the Brazilian homoparental families is recognized. The general aim of this research is to ascertain experience reports of homosexual couples with children, as a family. Four homosexual couples, of both genders, with adopted and/or biological children were defined as the minimal quantity of research subjects. Research data will be collected through a socioeconomic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview that will be recorded and fully transcribed in order to be submitted to content analysis. This knowledge may deepen already existing studies and also compose subsidies to ideations and strategies that may aid homoparental families in being recognized and respected in the society they are inserted. The disclosure of scientific researches in this area may provide elements to new reflections that may transform prejudiced and excluding postures on face of the development and plurality of family organizations that compose our society.
