Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to understand how the public opinion forms its preferences in international trade as well as issues related to economic factors endowment. I will intend to test three types of noneconomic factors: perceptions about the balance of power, regulatory issues (human rights) and ideology (automatic alignment/xenophobia). It's trying to understand what the specific weight of these factors in the formation of preferences on trade and formation of trade agreements between states. The specific focus will therefore address on perception and attitudes of respondents about international trade. It is intended to conduct a survey of opinion in Brazil and the United States. The partnership between the Caeni/USP, and School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) of North Carolina State University (NCSU) confers viability of the proposal. This project is part of the request for the research fellowship abroad. My stay at NCSU is planned for January to June 2013, for the development of this research, with a focus on learning new research methodology. (AU)
