Abstract The research intends to conduct a comparative historical-sociological analysis of the relationships between social networks formed around the rock in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s. From the analysis of the trajectory of certain bands, journalists and cultural music producers, their interests and social and cultural experiences in two phases - before and after their insertions in the cultural industry in the two capitals - is intended to specifically understand how she produced and verbalized what became known in this context as "rock Paulista" and "rock carioca", and what changes were implemented by these newcomers professionals in the production of discs, in the language of mass media and popular music in Brazil.
