Given the increase in problems related to water conditions, both with respect to quantity and quality, there is urgent not only to control water pollution and diffuse spot (this is the one distributedover the soil surface by numerous pollutants) but also to know the reason of this pollution. The objectiveof this project is to characterize the use and occupation of land in the region Basin Monjolinho throughthe use of satellite images of the region and with the help of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).Thus, is sought to open the possibility to evaluate the influence of occupation on the watershed, both inmatters of quantity (peak flow) as well as the question of the quality of the water (presence of pollutants). It is expected to find that soil sealing generates a number of significant impacts on the drainage area of influence, as well as drastic consequences on runoff, among other factors. Therefore, a major challengefor the planner is to anticipate and manage the impacts before they become reality. Thus, it is critical toconduct studies that provide diagnoses, especially in basins undergoing urbanization, as is the case insome areas of the Basin Stream Monjolinho in Sao Carlos, Brazil.
