Abstract This PROJECT proposes the use of byproducts of the sugar industry for the synthesis of organic carbonates through the capture and fixation of carbon dioxide with alcohols. We use the amidines, 1,8-di-azabicicloundeceno (DBU), and 1,5-di-azabiciclononeno (DBN) as catalyst bases and alcohols derived from fusel oil as starting materials. Besides reducing the environmental impact caused by such waste fusel oil and CO2 preparing alkyl carbonates is of great importance for different industries, primarily as solvents, intermediates for pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals. In Sao Paulo, the extensive areas covered by sugar cane plantations, and hence a large amount of sugar and alcohol plants, makes the region ripe for the research line "Development of Chemistry of Carbon Dioxide. Using CO2 in Synthesis of Organic Carbonates and Carbamates ", developed by the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry Fina FCT-UNESP, a campus of Presidente Prudente, which provides a laboratory equipped and researchers already working in this line of research.(AU) | |
