Abstract

Of the insects causing damage to soybean production, stink bugs highlight as the main group of pests and the species E. heros, currently, is the major pest of the crop, being widespread in all brazilian regions of this leguminous. To control these insects populations, the most used method is chemical control. However, the requirements have been growing as regards to reducing the use of pesticides, therefore, one alternative is the use of egg parasitoids T. podisi and T. basalis. The use of these control agents must be based on studies that ensure their efficiency in the management of pest population. So, with this proposal, we have as objectives: to assess biological parameters and reproductive potential of T. podisi and T. basalis through fertility life tables; determine the thermal requirements of both egg parasitoids; observe the effect of egg age of E. heros on parasitism by T. podisi and T. basalis; elucidate the interaction between the two natural enemies; know the optimal number of each species of parasitoid to be released; and designing mathematical models in order to simulate interactions among parasitoids, and releases of them for the control of E. heros, over time. Matching experiments and implementation of analytical methodology through ecological modelling is expected to improve pest control strategies in order to recommend the use of most efficient parasitoid to control E. heros, or even the efficiency of combined use of both natural enemies species.
