Abstract

This project is part of the BIOEN 2008/58035-6 and it is related with the final stages when selected genes will have their expression assayed in sugarcane material contrasting for lignin content and grown under field conditions. Thirty genotypes among a population of 66 individuals were planted in six localities and from two of them 4 genotypes were chosen. Two of these genotypes were high (8%) in lignin and other two, low (4%) in lignin. In a previous study we selected genes of the lignin metabolism which will now have their expression assayed in this material coming from the field. Additionally, they will also be evaluated for lignin content and S/G ratio.
