Abstract

During the last years, the Pierre Auger Observatory allowed important advances in the knowledge of the ultra-high energy cosmic rays, wich were possible due to the very large area of the surface covered and the use of a hybrid technique of detection. However, there are still many open questions related to these particles, regarding its origin, chemical composition and mechanisms of acceleration and propagation. Further efforts must be made to understand this phenomena. Currently, in an extension of the observatory called AMIGA, a region of its sensible area will be filled with detectors closer to each other, allowing the study with more precision of lower energy range of a big astrophysical importance, because it seems to be where occurs the transition of galactic to extra-galactic sources of cosmic rays. Also, it will be used buried muon counters to precision in obtaining parameters of the extensive air showers related to the chemical composition of the primary particles. This work is part of this efforts of the Auger Collaboration, in order to participate in the development, testing and installation of the new detectors, which have already started and will occur over the next year. After the conclusion of the experiment, data obtained will be used in studies of chemical composition. Thus, it is intended to contribute both to the expansion of the Pierre Auger Observatory, and for understanding the Physics related to the ultra-high energy cosmic rays. (AU)
