Abstract

Annually, there are more than 500,000 cases of leptospirosis worldwide and its incidence is directly related to low socioeconomic status and disability in basic sanitation services, being a matter of great importance for public health. Leptospirosis is acquired by contact with the urine of animals carrying the disease through broken skin or mucosa, by ingestion of contaminated food or water and contact with contaminated soils. This study will assess the immune response induced by transcutaneous immunization of mice with recombinant LipL32 leptospira protein compared to subcutaneous immunization. The application of antigen will be made after pretreatment of the immunization site, with emollients: pulmonary surfactant produced by Butantan or polyethylene glycol (PEG). After the immunization schedule it will be evaluate the humoral and secretory immune responses in the immunized animals and controls, as well as the cellular immune response, by measurement of cytokines in splenocytes "in vitro" stimulated with the antigen.
