Abstract

Calcium phosphates (CaP) are potential candidates for bone treatments once they are biocompatible, bioactive and resorbable. Granules of CaP, which presents irregular forms, have shown an increase in their clinical application due to their higher rate of "in vivo" resorption. However, when this materials are associated with bioactive molecules, such as drugs, the control of their forms essential. Therefore, it becomes logical to develop CaP microspheres capable of treating diseases or induce new bone tissue growth. The aim of this project is to obtain microspheres of calcium phosphate cement (CPC) using the process of spray drying. This technique has high efficiency and permits the formation of granules nearly spherical. (AU)
