Abstract

Coconut production is subject to attack by pests and diseases causing losses and affecting the quality of coconut water and solids. The application of pesticides is still one of the most used practices to control these pests. Determination of pesticide residues in coconut water and solids is needed to avoid risks to consumer health. The main objective of this project will be to understand fundamental aspects of the movements and directions that pesticides undergo in the coconut plant, as an auxiliary tool, or to carry out an action that eliminates the spread and control of disease. To meet this goal, methodologies will be develop using modern extraction techniques and high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector and mass spectrometry, to assess and monitor the acropetal translocation pesticides. This type of approach is scarce in the literature because of the difficulty and challenge of monitoring and controlling pesticides in matrices such as plants. This project is innovative as it will unheard because employ extraction and separation procedures in order to compare the results with better efficiency using, for the first time, liquid chromatography in studies about acropetal translocation. It highlights the lack of papers that develop methodologies for this type of monitoring and, especially, studies investigating pesticides in peculiar and vital parts of the plant such as the stem and leaves. Additionally, we propose an experimental design to evaluate different possibilities with space-temporal variables that assess the acropetal translocation of pesticides applied in areas of coconut production.
