Abstract

Characterized by being a sustainable nanomaterial, obtained from renewable sources, the nanocellulose has been the subject of research worldwide, including in Brazil, which is a major producer of pulp and cellulose and has the condition to become competitive in the production of this nanomaterial. Likewise nanotechnology and other nanomaterials, nanocellulose is emergent and it can influence the business environment and research by changes in the technological and regulatory issues. To monitor the technological developments associated to nanocelulose, new products, materials and processes involved, indicators obtained from scientific publications and patent documents may support strategic planning and organization decisions. This research project aims to investigate the development of indicators from patent documents and scientific publications in order to monitor the worldwide and national advances in research and development of nanocellulose. The development of indicators will rely on bibliometry, using data and text mining techniques to analyze patent documents and scientific publications. The purpose is to advance in the knowledge of nanocellulose technologies, outline the development of materials and processes researched and patented worldwide and in Brazil, and also to contribute to the development of new methodologies for the analysis of information contained in the text of patent documents.
