Abstract

The ruins, due to its undeniable documentary symbolic values have been important references both for the history of architecture as to constitute the idea of monument and memory. The understanding of a cultural good as a ruin or not interfere directly in the form of intervening for its conservation, implying, therefore, distinct results. The definition of ruin is related: with the problem of neglect that falls over goods with recognized cultural value, the sensation of sudden loss in recent ruination; to differences between degrees of ancient of the monuments and degrees of degeneration in which there is a subtle threshold, sometimes difficult to identify what distinguishes "ruins" of "damaged goods". This research aims to investigate the ruins while cultural goods: their definitions, attributions of meaning interventions and treatments, with the object of study specific cases in the state and city of São Paulo in which it is intended to verify the role that these remnants have been under our preservation policies.
