Abstract

The purpose of this PhD research project is to investigate the similarities and differences between the Unruh thermal bath and usual quantum-field-theory (QFT) thermal states. In particular, we shall analyze whether the Unruh thermal bath can induce phase transitions or restore a symmetry which for low temperatures (as the one perceived by inertial observers in the Minkowski vacuum) is spontaneously broken. We shall make use of Particle Physics processes which distinguish different phases of a QFT. We hope we can contribute to settle a controversy which exists in the literature on the subject. (AU)
