Abstract

This research project aims the analysis and setting of the power system protection devices by developing computational methods for transmission systems area. The solution methods will be based on metaheuristic algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization method, Genetic Algorithms and so on. The research proposals on this area are still recent and application to real systems have not been consolidated yet. Today, the modern or intelligent methods conceived from concepts of artificial intelligence (IA) are evolving rapidly and provide good solutions with the required reliability in engineering problems. In the technical literature, the works usually encompasses only relays of the same type, i.e, the settings are only on overcurrent relays or distance relays separately. This research work will analyse the simultaneous setting of different relays in order to provide the increased safety on the system operation. Another contribution is to optimize the solution taking into account several different relay curves given by the standards. The IEEE systems and Brazilian transmission system will be used as the test system in this project. (AU)
