Abstract

During pregnancy occur changes in the maternal organism due to physiological adaptations. There are anatomical, hemodynamic, and hormonal changes that can lead to overload the cardiovascular system, due to gestational hypervolemia. The analysis of HR variability (HRV) has been a very important tool for the evaluation of obstetric situations that can be used as a prognostic and diagnosis for cardiovascular risk. The objective of the present study was to compare the effects of slow breathing in pregnant and non-pregnant women, through the maneuver of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) with HRV analysis. Methodology and analysis: Twenty pregnant (n=10) and non-pregnant women (n=10) were evaluated. Subjects underwent standard in-laboratory electrocardiography. R-R intervals (RRi) were captured during spontaneous breathing respiratory pattern (5 min) and during maneuver of RSA, in which they were instructed to maintain deep and slow breathing during 6 cycles per min (4 min). Signals were analyzed by the time and frequency domain, which were free of stage shifts, artifacts. Data analysis was performed by ANOVA one-way repeated measurements and the level of significance will be considered p=0.05. Expected results: The expected results are that the magnitude of RSA may be reduced in pregnant women.(AU)
