Abstract

In recent years, our department has conducted several studies to evaluate the effects of alcohol, either female or male offspring in several respects. The objective of this project, based on the importance of alcohol as a drug of abuse, is to evaluate, in two stages, the action of oral administration of alcohol in pre-crossing in adult male rats with analysis of the interference of this drug on mating in pregnancy and the offspring of female rats. Initially, we intend to investigate how chronic treatment with ethanol in male rats influences the time of mating with untreated females. In the 2nd phase, the male offspring should be treated for 70 days with alcohol. At the end of the treatment will be sacrificed and study the effect of alcohol on spermatogenesis in these animals. The parameters to be observed breeding consists in evaluating motility and sperm vigor, sperm morphology, mitochondrial activity assessment and evaluation of sperm DNA integrity according to Barros (2007).
