Abstract

Universities have a significant role in the search for a more sustainable development of their own activities. This paper has the purpose of characterizing the impacts that universities - because of their activities and operations - cause on the environment; identifying their sustainable development indicators, which are parameters for the implantation of an environmental management system. The case study to gather data shall be the Engineering College of Bauru ("FEB") at the São Paulo State University ("UNESP"), thus also enabling an investigation of the application of the relevant decisions. The results obtained shall facilitate the preparation of a proposal to restructure the practices adopted by the Engineering College of Bauru for a more sustainable performance of the activities and operations thereof, as well as the characterization of the sustainability indicators, which are the parameters to implant an environmental management system in order to mitigate their environmental impacts in compliance with the new National Policy on Solid Waste.
