Abstract

The overall goal of this research is to historicize the historical constituents that guided the actions and influences of American nurses, who came to Brazil in the period from 1942 to 1961 and joined the "Program (Division) of Nursing" of the Special Service of Public Health. This program aimed to disclose the value of education in nursing and cooperate with professionals in order to disseminate and strengthen the work of nurses, so that they could consolidate professional nursing in Brazil. The question that guides this research is: what is the intent of the presence of these women, their contributions to the professionalization of nursing and how they conducted themselves as agents of their time in the period that were operating in the country? Methodologically, a survey was held and it was possible to find several nursing advisors' reports, from them we will perform analysis of the enunciations that will reveal consequences of their actions, intentions and the power exercised by them. The study will be based on the theoretical framework of Foucault, using discourse analysis, which provides new insight into the history of the profession and the organization of its spaces training, professional identity and power relations. In this respect, understand and analyze the performance of these women has the intention to better understand the contributions of the same for the development of nursing as an occupation. The proposal is justified by the fact that their memory is slightly raised and because understanding the history of nursing allows each worker to influence the future of the profession, making them able to assess and judge the events that affect their career.
