Abstract

The flows in converging-diverging nozzles are commonly presented from the isentropic point of view, that is, there is no irreversibility provided by the energy dissipation in the flows. This way of studying the phenomenon leads to useful results and is didactically relevant to explain the main characteristics of this type of flow. However, fluid flows are highly dissipative, which makes it interesting to verify the effects of dissipation in the formulations usually presented, and the possibilities of eventual influences that may be relevant in understanding (and perhaps in projecting) this type of equipment. Converging-diverging nozzles are used, for example, in rocket propulsion (usable in different fields), which shows that the study of these flows has a practical interest. (AU)
