Abstract

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a term used to indicate the respiratory insufficiency following the inflammatory response resulting in alterations in the alveoli-capillary permeability, pulmonary edema, and hypoxemia to high oxygen rates, added of intense pulmonary and systemic inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effects of aerobic physical activity on different pulmonary diseases have been extensively investigated. Therefore, since the low and moderate-intensity aerobic training, performed 3 to 5x/week, 60 minutes per session presents beneficial effects on the immune system, with direct repercussions on the lungs in different pulmonary diseases, we will evaluate the effects of five weeks of treadmill aerobic physical training, at 60% of maximal intensity, 5x/week, 60 minutes per session on the following parameters: pulmonary inflammation, cytokines levels in bronchoalveolar lavage and the expression of toll-like receptors 2, 4, 7 and 9 by pulmonary leukocytes in a model of intra and extra-pulmonary acute lung injury induced by LPS.
