Abstract

The relationship between religiosity-spirituality and health is much discussed today, both in the mainstream media and in academia. In psychological treatments in a general hospital, pacients and their families usually report the use of religion or spirituality as a way to deal with this tough time to which they are through. Such behavior is defined as religious-spiritual coping. Although is it not the only type of coping, since this concept is already widely known, this stands out for having specific results. Considering that such consequences are not always good for those who practice the religious-spiritual coping, there is positive religious-spiritual coping and negative religious-spiritual coping, classified after its effects. This research aims to verify the occurence of spiritual-religious coping and how it presents in inpatients of school hospital, specifically in the medical and surgical clinics. In the first phase there will be a quantitative research with the aim of measuring the types of religious-spiritual copings in 120 patients randomized. For that will be used two instruments: the Brazilian Rcope brief scale and a general form in order to relate such data using statistical tools. In the second phase research will focus qualitatively in eight cases by seeking to understand through psychodynamic theory how patients establish relationships with the disease, treatment, hospitalization and spiritual-religious coping both as regards their type, as your style.
