Abstract

When genomic regions under influence of selection are identified, these regions are called selection signatures. Probably, the change of the genetic constitution is associated with the proximity of these regions with a potential QTL for the trait selected. So, this study has the aim to find selection signatures in Nellore cattle that can be used to identify QTLs. Firstly, it will be made a simulation study to determinate the probability of identification of the regions led to homozygosity randomly using two populations with the same size. After, will be use 678 animals belonging to experimental population raised in the Animal Science Experimental Station, divided in two herds; one is selected for yearling body weight and a not selected one (EEZS). The method used for signatures identification will be the comparison of Extended Haplotype Homozygosity between populations. The regions will be considered signature only in selected herds and related with the trait selected, while signature identified in both herds may be related to the breed standard or evolutionary history of the breed. The validating work of selection signatures will be done with a: comparison between signatures identified with two different methods; association study of the signatures more significant with phenotypic information; search for selection signatures identified in experimental population in an independent population and scan for QTL previously described for weight near signatures.
