Abstract

Electrochemical capacitors, also known as supercapacitor, are promising devices for energy storage due to the extremely higher power densities and good charge/discharge cycle stabilities comparing with other devices such as nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries. The recent scientific effort relies on the development of materials which show improved energy densities. Ternary hybrid materials composed by carbon based-materials, conducting polymers and metal oxides have showed high performances as supercapacitors. The main goal of this project is the spectroscopic, morphological, electrochemical and thermal characterizations of ternary hybrid materials of graphenes, polyaniline and hexaniobates as supercapacitor electrodes. The synthetic, structural and morphological aspects of the hybrid materials will be correlated to the electrochemical performances. The hybrid materials will be characterized by resonance Raman, electron paramagnetic resonance and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies, scanning and transmission electronic microscopies, X-ray diffraction, cyclic voltametry, galvanostatic charge/discharge cycles, and mass spectrometry-coupled thermogravimetric analysis. The candidate intends to improve the electrochemical characterization during a research internship abroad in the Blaise Pascal University at Clermont-Ferrand (France), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fabrice Leroux. The project for the research internship abroad fellowship (BEPE) will be submitted on due date.
