Abstract

This project intends to develop research about the plays of the Russian author Anton Chekhov (1860-1904), one of the most important and influential dramatists, whose works have been reverberated in the theatrical creations of many countries, including Brazil. Focusing on his two last plays, "Three sisters" (1901) and "The Cherry Orchard" (1904), I will investigate the structural and thematic relation between them and how they present the stylistic characteristics of the author. The analysis will be oriented by the methodology exposed in Jean-Pierre Ryngaert's "Introduction to the analysis of theatre" and by Konstantin Stanislavski's active analysis method, presented by Nair Dagostini in her thesis "The active analysis method by K. Stanislavski as a base to read the text and the creation of the spectacle by director and actor". First, I will gather and study the bibliography written by and about Chekhov, intending to increase my knowledge about the author and his works. After this, I will analyze the plays individually, and then research the existing analogies between both. At the end of the project, an article will be elaborated on, relating all the materials collected. (AU)
