This project aims to understand how the American Museum of Man (Piauí - Brazil) and the Musée de l'Homme (Paris - France) build and sustain discourses about man and humanism, what categories of gender, culture, religion and appearance - among others - these institutions exclude / include to produce a speech about a universal man. We will analyze the contexts of creation of these museums and also its permanent exhibitions, aiming to understand how the articulation of their material culture and its museological practices are able to indicate which individuals belong or not to the category of human. The research of both institutions will be developed through the analysis of her written sources and also of their material culture, with the objective of demonstrate how his speeches are not irrefutable truths, but creations that should be investigated.
