Abstract

The project presented here is a continuation of the research developed earlier (also funded by FAPESP), which was about the contradictions of reproduction of labor and the state plans to modernize the Middle São Francisco. The point of this project is related to the dimension of the social relations of production and territorial dynamics in contemporary modernization. The area chosen for research is in Barra (BA) in the Territory Identity Velho Chico - territory constituted by the state planning - on which emphasize the transformation of social relations of the different stages of reproduction (the salaried work, work by day, the partnerships and mutual aid) located there.Since the 1960, have been proposed and effected actions of the State of planning in the "Vale do São Francisco", which turned these relations, causing the displacement and salaried work of many people because they understood the relationships of partnership and mutual like overdue. These were developed SUDENE and, from 1972, by CODEVASF and PNDs.Currently the state planning highlights the territorial dimension, organizing and "fixing" of local people from criteria of cultural identity, local productive arrangements (LPAs), among others. If before, considering how overdue the social relation established between the squatters, planning intended to effect the transformation of this subject in wage earner today that relationship is "valued" as territorial and cultural identity, to which allows and enables the reproduction with incentive or state subsidy. Why, this becomes the central state planning? How this manifests itself in different moments of social relations of production in the study area?
