Abstract

This research project proposes to evaluate a substance in the treatment of Chagas disease. Chagas disease presents today a publishes health problem that affects a large segment of the population, mainly in Latin America. In Brazil has not been developed a therapeutic for treatment of the disease with no toxic collateral effects. The substance evaluated in this study, (-)-cubebin the genus Piper belonging to the Piperaceae family, shows great interest, being part of the class of natural products, lignans, which has a variety of biological properties. The (-)-cubebin, a lignan dibenzilbutirolactonic is evenly distributed in the plant kingdom. Highlighting will be done by tests in vivo, the isolation of the substance (-)-cubebin seeds of Piper cubeba, and its encapsulation, besides the evaluation of the intensity of parasitism in the acute phase of Chagas disease experimental. The results obtained by parasitemia are compared with those obtained by a group of animals treated with the same substance over an unencapsulated form. Importantly, the main objective of the project is to evaluate the therapeutic activity of lignan (-)-cubebin in the acute phase, and encapsulation thereof, by the method of emulsion / solvent evaporation.
