Abstract

This project expects the synthesis of microporous silica spheres with diameters between 0,5 and 3 ¼m. This synthesis will happen by Stober's method, which the reagent tetraethoxylane, also called tetra-ethyl-ortho-silicate (TEOS), suffers hydrolysis catalyzed by ammonium hydroxide, with water and the alcohol: 1-butanol and 1-hexanol, separately. Then, theses particles will be characterized by the technique of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and by Nitrogen physisorption. The microspheres will be functionalized and packed into silica capillaries with dimension of 3-10 cm in length and 20-100 ¼m in internal diameter. The applications are going to involve analytical techniques of separation in micro-scale (nano-HPLC). Those techniques are relevant because they are considered more sustainable than the others which originated them; they goes against the no-miniaturized techniques, which require large amounts of solvent as mobile phase, producing as consequence considerable volumes of residues. To evaluate the quality of the columns, peptides of biological interests will be used, provided by the group of the teacher Maria A. Juliano, also of UNIFESP, thus analyzing the analytical performance of each material. (AU)
