Abstract

This project aims to participate in courses available on nursing history and theoretical and methodological aspects of research in the history of nursing in the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, , United States of America; attend research group meetings on the topic , expand data collection for the doctoral research entitled "Participation of American nurses in the professionalization of Brazilian nursing - 1942-1961", by accessing the documentation available in the Barbara Bates center for the study of the History of Nursing; participate in the activities undertaken by the center mentioned and develop a scientific paper on the topic studied, in order to expand and strengthen ties with other researchers of the history of nursing abroad. Methodologically, we use reports written by these nurses in order to analyze the discourses that will reveal their power developments, actions and intentions of these nurses while in Brazil. The study will be based on the theoretical framework of Foucault's discourse analysis, which provides a new insight into the history of the profession as to the organization of its training spaces, professional identity and power relations. In this respect, understand and analyze the performance of these women will allow to better understand their contributions to the development of nursing as an occupation. The proposal is justified by the fact that the memory of them is rarely raised and, because, understanding the history of nursing allows each worker to be able to evaluate and judge the events that affect their careers.
