Abstract

We began the discussion by describing, from the relationship between society and nature, the roots and causes of the rise of so-called environmental crisis. From this background, within a socio-cultural context, on about how she influenced the creation of protected areas and how these, in turn, incorporated environmental themes into their programs for public use. These areas before seen as places that should be isolated from human presence, pass a broader understanding, understanding the human being as a key to the conservation and preservation of these areas. In this moment environmental education earns key role, being understood as an important tool to mediate this debate and contribute to conservation. In this context, our objective is to investigate the theoretical and methodological assumptions that guide the implementation of the environmental education program of some protected areas located in the municipality of São Paulo and assess whether these practices correspond to what is proposed in order to investigate the challenges and contributions to propose an educational program for a protected area. We understand the qualitative approach is the best option to initiate this research and divided the data collection procedures in three steps: the first involves the collection of official documents (management plans) of the two state parks selected, the second consists of making observations field and the last, in carrying out semi-structured interviews with the manager of the unit, the coordinator of public use (if any) and two environmental monitors. After completion of all these steps, we will systematize and analyze the collected data based on content analysis method. (AU)
