Abstract The plates particles, generally, is defined as the product of agglutination of small particles of lignocellulosic materials, usually with the use of synthetic adhesives, pressure and heat for a certain period of time. In Brazil, the production of plates particle is held only reforested wood, however, it would be interesting to study other materials in this process. The biomass productivity of bamboo can vary from 50 to 100 ton / ha / year and biomass harvesting of bamboo, after the 3rd year is advantageous because the culture does not require replanting. However, in Brazil, a study on the control of the size of the chips coming from the stalks of bamboo for making plates particle has not yet been delineated. The study of the combination of the chips of different sizes (determined through a set of sieves) is the focus of research. Traces are designed to determine the optimal percentage distribution of the particles in relation to the physical and mechanical properties. Chips will be used with the following dimensions in millimeters: 4.75, 4.00, 3.35, 2.80, 2.00, 0.84 and 0.42. The percentage of adhesive will be maintained for all trace. The physical and mechanical properties of plates particles will be determined by standardized tests (ABNT 14,810), namely: absorption coefficient of water, humidity, density, swelling, tensile and flexural strength parallel to grain, as well as, analysis of internal adhesion of the particles.
