Abstract

This project aims at examining how the daily newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, through the selection and publication of materials, build the image of transgender individuals as actors enrolled in the semiotic discourse. The research corpus comprises articles published in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo for two years, between July 2011 and June 2013. The theoretical framework used to perform the analyzes will be the discursive semiotics of A. J. Greimas and his collaborators, which seeks to determine how meaning is constructed in textual productions through divers levels of complexity, especially levels of discourse, narrative and critical.
