Abstract

This research project aims to deepen my master’s research, conducted in Sao Paulo, about identities and subjectivities among persons with "intellectual disability". There are three specific goals, as follows: Firstly, the internship at Princeton Univerisity, under supervision of Prof. Dr. João Biehl, seeks a theoretical development on the theme of the construction of subjectivities in contexts that are crossed by biomedical discourses, and entangled by domestic, educational and laboral relations that equally matter in the formation of individuals. Secondly, it is an opportunity to further the bibliographic research on Disability Studies, a field that has been calling the attention of Brazilian researches, though we have yet restrict access and domain over it. Finally, this investigation aims to contribute with the research agenda of the partnership between Universidade de São Paulo and Princeton University, in the topics of global health and medical anthropology - an experience that, having as focus the problem of "disability" and mental health, must contribute to my doctoral research project.
