Abstract Sugarcane is a cultivar with great economical importance. There has been an effort to develop new biotechnological tools that could increase sugarcane productivity or add new features to the crop, like drought resistance. Recent studies in our research group found that a relatively high proportion of the sugarcane transcriptome is under control of the circadian clock. Among these transcripts, are many genes related to hormonal signaling, particularly auxin signaling. Auxin signaling pathways, together with the circadian clock, are signaling networks with great impact in plant biology. The main goal of this project is to investigate de auxin signaling pathways in sugarcane, and their relation to the circadian clock. To achieve this purpose, we intend to use sugarcane plantlets in vitro as biological model. These plantlets will be used to evaluate auxin biological responses in sugarcane, and to evaluate if these responses are modulated by the circadian clock. This project may expand our knowledge of the interaction between two signaling pathways relevant to plant biology, which may be relevant for different approaches for sugarcane enhancement. (AU) | |
