Abstract

This project aims to identify the level of self-confidence acquired by caregivers of the children with myelomeningocele in performing the procedure of intermittent urinary catheters after training in low-fidelity simulator. Following the ethical aspects, the data will be collected by the researcher during the nursing consultation for newborns and children with myelomeningocele in use of intermittent urinary catheters, assisted by the nephro-pediatrics team in a rehabilitation center of a university hospital in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The stipulated period for collection will be from March to June 2013. Caregivers of the children over 16 years will be excluded of the study and assisted by another medical team in the same location. To reach the objectives, the study will be conducted in two phases: Phase 1) descriptive study of characterization of subjects performed through structured interview during nursing consultation; and Phase 2) after consultation nursing (Phase 1), in the private procedure room, caregivers of the children will have protocol training on low-fidelity simulator, responding to instrument that assesses self-confidence before and after training. Data will be coded and entered into Excel spreadsheets by two different people, which will be exported and analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 15.0 (Windows). The descriptive statistical analysis and parametric tests will be performed. The discussion of the results of the research will be conducted through literature review, relevant to the proposed objectives. (AU)
