Abstract

The National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT) has been held since 2004 as one of the main actions of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation for the popularization of scientific knowledge in the country, combining efforts of the areas of formal and non-formal education. This project proposes to characterize the contribution of the 2013 SNCT for the popularization of scientific knowledge aimed at the general public. Specific objectives are: a) to investigate the principles and guidelines of the activities of popularization of scientific knowledge currently adopted in Brazil and in the context of the European Union in comparative perspective; b) to investigate the contextualization of the activities of science popularization held during the National Week of Science and Technology in the State of São Paulo in 2013 in relation to the possible references to the social and environmental impacts of technological applications and social conditions of production of scientific knowledge, such as the relationship between social agents (government, industry, universities and funding agencies) and formulation of research priorities; c) to propose practical recommendations for performing activities to the popularization of scientific knowledge in the context of the National Week of Science and Technology to contribute to the public understanding of science and technology in the context of their social conditions of production and social and environmental impacts.
