Abstract

Leishmaniasis is a global public health problem and one of the six most common parasitic infections in the world, with a prevalence of 12 million patients and an incidence of 2,000,000 new cases per year, of which 1.5 million are cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). In Brazil, in the period 2001 to 2011 has reported 291,213 new cases of LT. In the treatment of LT, antimony compounds are used as first-line, and the N-methyl glucamine is the drug most widely used because of its higher activity and lower toxicity. However, it was demonstrated nephrotoxicity with its use, at risk for acute renal failure (ARF). The objective of the study is to see if there is impaired renal function, or during treatment of LT. With the approval of the Project by the Bioethics Committee will start a cross-sectional study of data collection from medical records of compulsory notification forms from 30 patients hospitalized in the Medical Clinic of the University Hospital of Taubaté (HUT) / SP for treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the period from 2002 to 2012. It will use a form for the collection of clinical, epidemiological, laboratory, and histopathological data of LT. For the classification of acute kidney injury or ARF will be used the Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN). The data collected will be analyzed by SPSS version 19 software and statistical significance will be considered when p-value <0.05. (AU)
